Original text: "אתה תהיה על־ביתי ועל־פיך ישׁק כל־עמי רק הכסא אגדל ממך׃"
Assumed Literal Translation: "You shall be over my house, and at your mouth all my people shall kiss (נשׁק/nâshaq). Only in respect to the throne will I be greater than you."
English Standard Version: "You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command. Only as regards the throne will I be greater than you"
Better Translation: "You shall be over my house, and at your word all my people shall eat. Only in respect to the throne will I be greater than you."
Although most translations render the Biblical Hebrew nâshaq as 'shall obey' or 'be ruled' by allusion from modern Hebrew 'to kiss', the word more accurately reflects its Egyptian stem which means 'shall eat' which better accords with its context.
