COMMENTARY
5:1
This is the book of the generations of Man/Adam.
When God created Man/Adam, He made him in the likeness of God.

5:2
He created them male and female, and blessed them, and called their name Man/Adam in the day when they were created.

5:3   When Man/Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. Cain and Abel ignored.
5:4   The days of Man/Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years; and he had other sons and daughters.
5:5
Thus all the days that Man/Adam lived were 930 years, and he died.

5:6   When Seth had lived 105 years, he fathered Enosh.
5:7   Seth lived after he fathered Enosh 807 years and had other sons and daughters.
5:8
Thus all the days of Seth were 912 years, and he died.

5:9   When Enosh had lived 90 years, he fathered Kenan.
5:10   Enosh lived after he fathered Kenan 815 years and had other sons and daughters.
5:11
Thus all the days of Enosh were 905 years, and he died.

5:12   When Kenan had lived 70 years, he fathered Mahalalel.
5:13   Kenan lived after he fathered Mahalalel 840 years and had other sons and daughters.
5:14
Thus all the days of Kenan were 910 years, and he died.

5:15   When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he fathered Jared.
5:16   Mahalalel lived after he fathered Jared 830 years and had other sons and daughters.
5:17
Thus all the days of Mahalalel were 895 years, and he died.

5:18   When Jared had lived 162 years he fathered Enoch.
5:19   Jared lived after he fathered Enoch 800 years and had other sons and daughters.
5:20
Thus all the days of Jared were 962 years, and he died.

5:21   When Enoch had lived 165 years, he fathered Methuselah. .
Enoch years adjusted as per an older
Hebrew text reflected in Septuagint
5:22   Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 200 years and had other sons and daughters.
5:23
Thus all the days of Enoch were 365 years.

5:24
Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.

5:25   When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he fathered Lamech.
5:26   Methuselah lived after he fathered Lamech 782 years and had other sons and daughters.
This son of Enoch dies in the year of the Flood after seeing his own great-grandsons grow up and marry.
5:27
Thus all the days of Methuselah were 969 years, and he died.
5:28   When Lamech had lived 182 years, he fathered a son
5:29      and called his name Noah, saying, 'Out of the ground that the LORD has cursed, this one shall bring us relief from our work and from the painful toil of our hands.'
5:30   Lamech lived after he fathered Noah 595 years and had other sons and daughters.
5:31
Thus all the days of Lamech were 777 years, and he died.

5:32   After Noah was 500 years old, Noah fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
6.1   When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them,
6:2      the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. 'sons of God' = angels
6:3
Then the LORD said, 'My Spirit shall not shield man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.'
Now 120-years to the Flood
See: Cause of the Flood
6:4   The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.
6:5   The LORD saw that the wickedness of Man/Adam was great in the land, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6:6   And the LORD regretted that He had made Man/Adam on the land, and it grieved Him to His heart.
6:7
So the LORD said,
'I will blot out Man/Adam whom I have created from the face of the land,
Man/Adam and animals and creeping things and birds of the sky, for I am sorry that I have made them.'

6:8   But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
