The Judgements of God
W I T H I N
human history
Outside of human
history, every individual being will be personally judged in direct encounter with God, BUT –
the Bible presents a very different picture of God's judgements within human history.

The horrific
judgement upon all humanity in the world flood (global tsunami), except for Noah's immediate family of eight, floating in their zoo-filled barge for 370-days, was NOT God getting even for the gross sins of humanity as some appear to have thought it to be.
It was far more than this!

The
Note: the description of the Throne of God in Revelation as surrounded by a rainbow mean Never Again, so earth need not fear the future in our wild universe.
Bible gives the reason in Genesis Six (6:4) as being the genetic mutation that was demonically introduced through human unfaithfulness to God: the so-called Nephilim, the נפלים ... נפלים
1.
The World Flood
Expositors have really struggled to understand the use of this term, and variously explained it a 'giants', 'fallen ones', or even 'aliens', but the response of God was to totally eliminate all, and this should then guide us.
This seemingly ruthless elimination was far more than just a judgement.
It terminated any genetic connection with the future of the human race.
Many
thousands of years later, toward the end of Israel's migration from Egypt in their Exodus, when Israel's 12 spies, that Moses had sent out, came back from examining the land which God had promised to Abraham was to become their homeland, they reported that –
"there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim),
and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them" (Numbers 13:33).
The same term that is used in Genesis to describe the genetic perversion which was the basis for the historical judgement of the World Flood.

And
so God commanded Israel –
"...in the cities of these peoples that the LORD your God is giving you for an inheritance,
you shall save alive nothing that breathes,
but you shall devote them to complete destruction,
the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites,
as the LORD your God has commanded
..."
(Deuteronomy 20:16).
How could God be so cruel to command Israel to even kill the children and even the babies of the Canaanite tribes!
More than five centuries before this some Canaanites (Aner, Eschol, and Mamre) had been good personal friends of Abraham.
But things had changed!

2.
Canaanite Genocide
Commanded
This
was no Nazi-holocaust of the Canaanites. This was God at work in history to eliminate what had previously been eliminated in the Flood of Noah, which is why the same term is used for this genetic interference in the human race.

These
two judgements of God in human history (world-wide in Noah's time, and Canaan in Joshua's time) were His acts of kindness to the future of the human race. Outside of history, the infinite accuracy of God's judgement applies to the individual, but within the flow of history, the judgements of God are because He cares, because He loves – beyond measure,
because in His infinite wisdom and grace, the future is more important than the past.
He is the one who
deserves to be trusted
beyond understanding!
So, even
in His judgements within history, God does not cease to be kind concerning His future purpose in our human existence.
Praise His name (His character).
