COMMENTARY
4:1
After these things I saw, and behold, a door standing open in Heaven, and the first voice which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said,
'Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this'.
Jesus summons John to Heaven in vision,
with a promise to unfold the future.
4:2,3
Immediately I became in the Spirit, and behold, a throne was set in Heaven, and One sitting on the throne, and the One sitting looked like a jasper stone and a sardius, and a rainbow was round the throne, that looked like an emerald.
Jasper/Sardius = Deep Red
Emerald = Green
4:4
And round the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones were sitting twenty-four Seniors, clothed in white garments, and on their heads crowns of gold.
'twenty-four thrones' encircling:
angelic assessors, referred to previously as 'Watchers' and 'Thrones'. Dan.4:17; 7:9.
4:5,6
And out of the throne came lightnings and voices and thunders. And before the throne seven lamps of fire were burning, which are the seven Spirits of God. And before the throne was a glassy sea, like crystal.
And in the midst of the throne and around the throne were four living creatures, full of eyes before and behind.
Holy Spirit to the seven local churches.

The four Cherubs
4:7,8
And the first living creature was like a lion,
and the second living creature was like a calf,
and the third living creature had a face like a man,
and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle.
And each of the four living creatures had six wings, and were full of eyes within.
And they were without rest, day and night, saying,
'"Holy, holy, holy Lord God, the Almighty,"
the One who was, and who is, and who is coming.'
Symbolic faces (Ezek. 1:10; 10:14) of the four life-forms protected under the covenant of Noah (Gen.9:9-10) represented by the rainbow around the throne. These special angels mark the holy distinction of the presence of God, as at the entrance to the garden in Eden and as represented on the ark of Israel's covenant.

Isaiah 6:3.
4:9-11
And whenever the living creatures give glory and honour and thanks to the One sitting on the throne, to the One who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four Seniors fall down before the One sitting on the throne. And they worship the One living forever and ever, and throw their crowns before the throne, saying,
'Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive the glory and the honour and the power,
because You created all things, and by Your will they were, and were created'
.
God's Last Will and Testament (in terms of Roman Private Law); that is, the right to inherit God's rule – the kingdom of God!
The seven seals are not seven parts of the Scroll. They are the minimum legal requirement for a deed of inheritance, and must all be broken before the Scroll can be opened by the named heir.
5:1
And I saw in the right hand of Him that sat on the throne a scroll, written within and on the reverse, sealed with seven seals.
5:2,3
And I saw a strong angel proclaiming in a loud voice, 'Who is worthy to open the scroll, and to loosen its seals?'
And no one in Heaven, or on the earth, or underneath the earth, was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.
No one in history is found worthy to inherit the Kingdom of God – God's rule over creation, for which humanity was originally designed (Gen.1:26-27).
5:4,5
And I wept much*, because no one was found worthy to open the scroll, or to look at it.
And one of the Seniors said to me,
'Don't weep. See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David,
overcame to open the scroll and its seven seals.'

*Being 'in the Spirit' John's deep emotional response reflects the feelings of God that 'all have sinned and come short of the glory of God' (Rom.3:23).

The man Jesus is alone worthy to
Inheritance Scrollinherit God's rule / kingdom.
See Psalm 2:7-9 &

Romans 8:17.
5:6
And I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the Seniors, a little Lamb standing, as if it had been slaughtered, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
5:7
And He came, and took it out of the right hand of the One sitting on the throne.
5:8-10
And when He took the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four Seniors fell before the little Lamb, each having a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
And they sing a new song, saying,
'Worthy are You to receive the scroll, and to open its seals,
because You were slaughtered and by Your blood have purchased to God from every tribe and language and people and nation,
and have made them a kingdom and priests to God, and they will reign over the earth.'
Matthew 21:43.
Through His death,
Jesus has incorporated
all His people as co-heirs
of His inheritance.

Daniel 7:27.
5:11,12
And I saw, and I heard a sound of many angels round the throne and the living creatures and the Seniors, and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice,
'Worthy is the little Lamb who was slaughtered
to receive the power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing'
.
(Seven epithets)
7=fullness/completeness
5:13,14
And every creature in the heaven, and on the earth, and underneath the earth, and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying,
'To the One sitting on the throne, and to the little Lamb,
the blessing, and the honour, and the glory, and the might,
forever and ever'
.
And the four living creatures said, 'Amen'.
And the Seniors fell and worshipped.
 Each vision is summoned
by each Cherub in turn, for
it pertains to an escalating condition
across a world preserved
under Noah's Covenant.
6:1
And I saw when the little Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying, as with a sound of thunder,
'Come'.
6:2
1.
And I saw, and see, a white horse, and the one sitting on it had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.
A Sequence of Consequence:
'white horse' – victorious action
'bow' – Military Conquest
6:3
And when He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying,
'Come'.
6:4
2.
And another horse went forth, a red:
and it was given to the one sitting on it to take peace from the earth in order that they should kill one another, and a great sword was given to him.
Civil War as a consequence.
6:5
3.
And when He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying,
'Come'.
And I saw, and see, a black horse, and the one sitting on it had a balance in his hand.

6:6
And I heard like a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying,
'A choenix of wheat for a denarius, and three choenixes of barley for a denarius,
and do not harm the oil and the wine.'
Food-Shortage as a consequence.
'denarius' – a day's wage for a labourer.
shortage only of annually grown crops, as farmers cannot plough during civil war.
6:7
4.
And when He opened the fourth seal, I heard the sound of the fourth living creature saying,
'Come'.
6:8
And I saw, and see, a pale green horse, and the one sitting on it was named Death; and Hades followed him. And authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, and with famine, and with death, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
Death
as consequence of the above.
