And the fifth angel trumpeted; and I saw a star that had fallen from heaven onto the earth, and the key of the shaft of the abyss was given to it.
And he opened the shaft of the abyss; and smoke went up out of the shaft like smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the shaft.
And out of the smoke came forth locusts into the earth; and authority was given them, as the authority of the scorpions of the earth. And it was said to them so that they should not harm the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, except the men who have not the seal of God on their foreheads. And it was given them that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months; and their torment is as the torment of a scorpion, whenever it stings a man.
Demonic affliction of every non-Christian!
These are the demons previously removed from
history by confinement to the Abyss (Lk.8:31)
or Tartarus (ταρταρωσας, 2Pet.2:4).
They are the worst of the worst!
And in those days men will seek death, and they will by no means find it; and they will long to die, and death flees from them.
And the appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for war; and on their heads as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as men's faces. And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as teeth of lions, and they had breastplates as breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to war. And they have tails like unto scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their authority to harm men five months.
This translation of the name is a clue to calculating the number of Antichrist's prototype: 'Nero Caesar' in Hebrew, so as not to draw suspicion from John's prison guards, or any agent of the state.
They have over them as king the angel of the abyss: his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek tongue he has the name Apollyon.
The first Woe is past: see, after these things there come yet two Woes.
And the sixth angel trumpeted; and I heard one voice out of the four horns of the golden altar before God, saying to the sixth angel having the trumpet:
'Loose the four angels bound at the great river Euphrates.'
And the four angels were loosed, that had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, so that they should kill a third of men. And I heard the number of them, the number of the armies of cavalry was two myriads of myriads: and so I saw the horses in the vision, and those sitting on them, having breastplates that were fire-coloured, dusky-red and sulphurous; and the heads of the horses as heads of lions; and out of their mouths comes fire and smoke and sulphur.
From these three plagues a third of men were killed, by the fire and the smoke and the sulphur coming out of their mouths. For the authority of the horses is in their mouth and in their tails, for their tails are like serpents with heads; and with them they do harm.
And the rest of men, who were not killed with these plagues, repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of bronze, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk: and they repented not of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
Daniel 5:23;
Psa. 115:4 -7; 135:15-17
And I saw another strong angel coming down out of heaven, clothed with a cloud, and the rainbow on his head, and his face as the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire, and having a little scroll open in his hand. And he placed his right foot on the sea, and the left on the earth; and he cried with a loud voice, as a lion roars. And when he cried, the seven thunders uttered their voices.
And when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; and I heard a voice from Heaven saying,
'Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.'
And the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the earth lifted up his right hand to Heaven, and swore by Him that lives forever and ever, "who created the heaven"  and the things in it, "the earth" and the things in it, "and the sea and the things in it," that there shall be no longer time, but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to trumpet, then is finished the mystery of God as He declared to His slaves, the prophets.
Exodus 20:11
Psalm 146:6
And the voice which I heard out of Heaven, spoke with me again, saying,
'Go, take the scroll opened in the hand of the angel standing on the sea and on the earth.'
The Lord Jesus speaks...
And I went toward the angel, saying to him that he should give me the little scroll.
  And he said to me,
'Take and devour it, and it will embitter your stomach, but in your mouth it shall be sweet as honey.'
And I took the little scroll out of the angel's hand and devoured it, and it was in my mouth as sweet honey: and when I ate it, my stomach was made bitter.
  And they said to me,
'You must prophesy again over many peoples and nations and languages and kings.'
And a reed like a staff was given to me, and it was said,
'Rise, and measure the shrine of God, and the altar, and those worshipping in it.'
