Three  Catalytic  Revelations  In  History  That  Are  Little  Understood  Even  Today
the inspired Word of God, which we call the Bible, began to be given, it was specially given into human history at a time, after the Canaanite invention of alphabetic script, so that much more than simple concepts could be conveyed.
Before this, pictographic scripts were developed in Mesopotamia and in Egypt to record and to tell stories, but the Word that God would give to humanity would carry much more than this, hence both the timing and the direction of Abraham's journey from Ur, and also the 40-years preparation of Moses with godly Jethro of Midian (who was part of this Canaanite culture) before he was ready for his call to lead Israel.
See: Moses'
40-years with Jethro
this God-inspired script of Holy Scripture was given into a human history which is characterised by self-centeredness.
Therefore certain content was necessarily hidden until the time came for it to be understood.

Hence there are three special statements in Holy Scripture which were deliberately hidden from those to whom they were given until the time came in history for their fulfilment – for prophecy is more than prediction.
It is a direct inspired revelation from God, but not by reason of its content, but by reason of its source.
Three revelations in Holy Scripture were given to remain completely secret until the time of their fulfilment, and sadly even today some are little understood.
of the birth
of the messiah!
"לכן יתן אדני הוא לכם אות הנה העלמה הרה וילדת בן וקראת שׁמו עמנו אל׃"
"So, The Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold!
The virgin will conceive and will bring forth a son; and she shall call His name Immanuel.
Isaiah 7:14.

for military deliverance
from Ephraim and Assyria.
And his name 'Emmanuel',
God-with-us, is just
referring to God's
faithfulness to the
people of Judah.
The word
The Hebrew had a word for virgin, bethûlâh, but that was not used because it needed the double meaning!
עלמ/almah, which is here translated 'virgin', deliberately carried a double meaning. Literally it meant 'maiden' or 'young woman' but it was used colloquially in that time to mean 'virgin', hence its translation centuries later by the pre-Christian Jewish translators of the Hellenistic-Greek Septuagint who knew this (the common Greek of the time),
which example has been followed by Christian translators ever since.
Initially its full meaning was secret, for all it meant initially was the God-given time-frame for the deliverance of the kingdom of Judah from the military threat against it of Ephraim and Assyria, which was why Isaiah was instructed to take his son with him when he publicly delivered the prophecy to the king so as to signify that the time-frame sign would be in his own family (7:3).
It would be only many generations later before its hidden meaning would begin to be realised.
 Isaiah's Virgin
those to whom this prophecy was initially given, it meant that Isaiah's young wife would become pregnant (Isaiah 8:3) with their next child and, before that child would be old enough to know the difference better good and evil (sweet and sour, Isaiah 7:16), Judah would be delivered from the military threat Ephraim and Assyria posed against it when the prophecy was given.
It was only many
διὰ τοῦτο δώσει κύριος αὐτὸς ὑμῖν σημεῖον· ἰδοὺ ἡ παρθένος ἐν γαστρὶ ἕξει καὶ τέξεται υἱόν, καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Εμμανουηλ· (LXX)
generations later that the top Jewish scholars, from the clue in its context that this child would be called "wonderful, counsellor, etc." (Isaiah 9:6), concluded that the idiomatic secondary meaning of almah meant it had a messianic significance, so they only then applied the idiomatic meaning of almah and translated it as "virgin" in the Jewish Septuagint with the Greek word παρθένος/parthenos which has only one meaning, in what eventually became the most used translation in the Jewish synagogues of the Roman Empire. Consequently, many Christians, without an adequate historical background to the circumstance within which this secret messianic prophecy was spoken, are therefore, even today, unaware of its special original dual significance.

of the hometown
of the Messiah
"ויצא חטר מגזע ישׁי ונצר משׁרשׁיו יפרה׃ "
"There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,
and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit
Isaiah 11:1.

The word
branch/נֵצֶר/nêtser, in its consonants, contained a phonetic code for the town Nazareth in which the messiah would grow up undisturbed into manhood. If this had not been in code, the massacre associated with the visit of the Wise Men to Bethlehem would have been replicated in Nazareth.
did not know of this prophecy, but an angel of God came to him, where he and Mary had taken refuge from King Herod with the Child in Egypt, and told him to return. He did so, to where he had left from in Judaea, but, on arriving there, God gave him a warning dream, and so he moved on northwards and settled with Mary and the Child in Nazareth in Galilee. This prophecy was so securely hidden that no one knew the significance of the messiah being called "Branch" until after the events recorded in the Gospels.
For good
reason, this was set to only be understood after the event, for otherwise the tragedy of the Bethlehem massacre in Judea would have slaughtered many children in Nazareth of Galilee by the Jewish scholars pointing Herod to that town also.
"And he (Joseph) went and lived in a city called Nazareth,
so that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that He would be called a Nazarene.

self-sacrifice effect
of the Messiah
The second half of this quote
refers to the blasphemous act of Syrian king Antiochus Epiphanes setting up an idol of himself in the temple, which merges with Christ's future sign of the End in Matthew 24:15, and so
this connection is why Christians have mistakenly assumed the first part also refers to Antichrist, rather than Jesus' own sacrifice terminating the validity of temple sacrifice.

" והגביר ברית לרבים שׁבוע אחד וחצי השׁבוע ישׁבית זבח ומנחה ועל כנף שׁקוצים משׁמם ועד־כלה ונחרצה תתך על־שׁמם׃ ל־שׁמם׃"
"And He shall confirm covenant with the many for one week.
And in the middle of the week
[of the 7-years]
He shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease.
And on a corner of the altar will be abominations that desolate, even until the end.
And that which was decreed shall pour out on the desolator.
The 1899 Douay-Rheims translation is one of the few which gives an accurate rendition. Most have clumsily mistranslated it as to 'make' a covenant rather than confirm or strengthen (an existing) covenant, and so have helped the confusion associated with this verse which has then become seen as Antichrist making a covenant when it is actually pointing to Jesus' atonement.
The word גָּבַר / gâbar cannot mean 'make' a covenant. It can only mean strengthen or confirm an existing covenant.
For that reason the top Jewish scholars before Christ's time translated the word accurately in their Septuagint
as δυναμωσει / dunamoō – to strengthen (an existing Covenant, God's Covenant)
Daniel 9:27.
To conclude the full
spiritual restoration
of the nation Israel,
in God's answer
to Daniel's prayer!
So the public ministry of Jesus lasted only 3½-years for good reason!
It is for this reason that, when the Jewish authorities complained at the uproar of cheering that the entrance of Jesus on the donkey caused, He said in complete defiance –
"I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out."
because it was the time prophesied to Daniel by Gabriel, which the Lord Jesus knew and believed!
Luke 19:40.

Jesus rode
on an unbroken/untamed colt into Jerusalem (as the sign of Zechariah 9:9), into which He had always walked, on that last day of that half-week of years (the midst of the week), before the incomprehensible happened – with Israel crucifying its own messiah (using the Roman military) which became the framework within which God in His love then personally secured an eternal atonement, which opened the Eternal Covenant, thus ending forever any atonement value before Him of killing animals, and so this then –
invalidated forever any further temple sacrifices for sin!

What Happened
in Gethsemane?
Bible quote above is part of the words of the angel Gabriel to Daniel in answer to his earnest prayer for the full restoration of his nation because the prophecy of Jeremiah, that its exile would last only 70-years, was now coming to an end. So in response, God's message through the angel is that what he had asked for was more than just a return from Exile, and therefore it would take seven times the 70-years prophesied (490-years), of which
the last seven years would be split by an event that would completely end the temple atonement sacrifices before God.
The Hidden Time of God
therefore, to the following Jewish generations, this prophecy is deliberately mixed with the prophesied oppression of Israel by Antiochus Epiphanes of Syria (Daniel 11:28, 31), which Jesus later referred to concerning Antichrist (in Matthew 24:15) as yet to have a secondary future fulfillment in marking the start of –
the coming future final 3½-years (the 1260-days) in its climax of self-sacrificing Christian witness.

latter issue unfortunately, most evangelical Christians are significantly uninformed, for the sincerely mistaken doctrine of John Darby, that the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ would be split into two events:
(1) a Rapture for Christians to go to Heaven*, and that then
(2) 7-years later a second Second Coming for Israel – to rescue it from Armageddon,
with a 7-year Antichrist-tribulation period in-between these two comings, has become spread so widely,
particularly in the United States, that it is difficult for many sincere Christians to think outside of this false framework.
