The 'Campus'-Heresy in ChurchLife
— ignorantly violating the essential nature of the Church of Jesus Christ —
Where one local church has multiple 'campuses' and/or multiple service-sessions
Probably the  most  subtle  of  all  church–life  heresies
For if the gathering of the local church is divided either by time or by place it is no longer one church!
So that in practice the identity of the 'church' is now shifted to the administration of the program.
and the congregation's ministry in the gifts of the Holy Spirit terminates and is 'shifted' onto the platform
This is probably the most subtle of all Satan's strategies in the history of Christianity world-wide for it seems so good, and has its focus on reaching the unreached.
Its cause is not new.
Ignorance of the unique nature of the Christian Church has blighted Christianity from its beginning!
There is good reason, why, even though Jesus had clearly stated in the week before His crucifixion –
" this gospel of the kingdom [Christ's correction of Jewish Pharisees teachings about God's reign]
will be proclaimed throughout the whole world
as a testimony to all nations,
and then the end will come
as to WHY this Christian Gospel outreach to these "all nations" did NOT begin from Jerusalem.

Matthew 24:14.
Christianity (the base of the first Christian Church) was so racially preconditioned that they simply did not understand their own spiritual essence, for even the Christian outreach to their nearby Samaritan neighbours had to wait until a Deacon with a Gentile name (Philip) moved in that direction, and even then the further step by Philip required an angelic intervention,
so locked was their mental paradigm at that time.
Acts 8:26.
This was
more than a lack of understanding concerning a 'shift of focus' – from Israel to include the whole world.
It was a failure to grasp the fundamental essence of the unique character of Christianity itself!
Even needing
to replace Judas Iscariot to restore the 'leadership' of the 12 Apostles before the day of Pentecost is a clue to this essential error of understanding, which the Apostle Paul was also to face when this Jerusalem leadership interrogated him concerning his mission to these "all nations', as also the Apostle Peter had needed to justify himself to this same Jerusalem leadership after he had dared to baptise the uncircumcised Gentile household of Cornelius.
Acts 15:6.

Acts 10:48.

 Primary Tactic
This error is far bigger than an issue of the priority of Israel and the falling away of circumcision as a requirement. It betrays a fundamental lack of understanding of the very nature of the New Covenant in Jesus Christ. Even though it was understood that Israel's Old Covenant of Sinai had ended in the death of Jesus (Hebrews 8:13),
The essence of the Christian Church exists only in the immediate, Spirit-anointed, direct relationship between believers, as represented in their sharing the bread in a Biblical Holy Communion.
the actual nature of the newness of this Eternal or New Covenant was not comprehended.
This change was not geographic, as it is sometimes ignorantly portrayed – from 'Jerusalem to Rome'.
What today has become the Campus-heresy directly concerns this essential character of the Christian Church, which has been so subtly subverted and downgraded by well-meaning programs of church mission, which of course need organising and funding.
And so, of course, what could be wrong with that!
The word ἐκκλησία in our New Testament, translated as "church", was a secular term for a meeting of PEOPLE, and only of people, that were called together.
A significant
Symptom 1:
So the Holy Spirit
is downgraded to a
supporting function.
symptom/indicator today of this Campus-Heresy failure of perspective, concerning the nature of the Christian Church, is the manner in which Holy Communion is served to a particular congregation, in that Communion is there presented simply as a 'memorial' of the sacrifice of Jesus (quoting Jesus of course to: "do this in remembrance of me", Luke 22:19), so that what the Holy Spirit had instructed us in 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 and 11:28-33 concerning its direct application to the inter-personal relationships between New Covenant believers is completely ignored.

multi-church churches,
also called multi-site or
multi-campus churches,
are generally
held together by
the budget, the
lead pastor's
and the
brand identity.

This same
error of perspective, evident in the multi-site or multiple-campus church heresy on the nature of the Christ's Church, also shows itself in churches which outgrow their physical facilities, and, instead of subdividing and forming two or more churches, they arrange multiple service-sessions, even though the spiritual identity of a local church lies in the common commitment among its people toward each other, as expressed in their united communal-worship,
which is then seriously undermined when, in all sincerity, a congregation is divided into multiple service-sessions.
This is
not understood simply because the focus is upon the 'platform-ministry' rather than upon the interpersonal relationships between and among the people of God, the living Body of Christ!
Symptom 2:
symptom of this, but not confined to it, is the ministry-migration of the Spirit's ministry gifts, displaced from the congregation to its leadership, so that, for instance, any functioning of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as in tongues or prophesy, etc., needs prior acknowledgment from the platform or it is seen simply as an interruption. This error arises from thinking of Christian ministry as belonging to 'those approved' by the leadership structure rather than to those to whom the Spirit of God Himself was given for this purpose at Pentecost, namely all God's people.

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus
"and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its Creator. Here there
is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all
for any social divisions of gender, race, occupation, or location, etc., are NOT to be recognised at all in the life of the Christian Church!
Galatians 3:28; Colossians 3:11.
That which, at a local ('campus') level, does not conform to the whole essential character of Christ's Church, is simply not Christian!
There  are  no  bishoprics  in  Christ's  Church.
It is of the essence of the Church of Jesus, as a creation of the Holy Spirit through the regeneration of the believer,
to be a practical sample within human reach of the actual love of God which sent Christ into this world!
To refer to any local congregation of God's people by debasing it to 'campus' rather than a church is blasphemous
for it is an insult to the Holy Spirit by Whom all Christians become spiritually one Body as Christ's Church and
it is therefore a direct example of Christ's Church at a local level!
