 "This Gospel"
The Christ of God said to His own –
this gospel of the Kingdom [sovereign reign of God] will be proclaimed
— throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, —
and THEN the End will come
Matthew 24:14.
— Thus anything less than the continuance of the public ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ is historically not "this gospel" —
In God's
faithfulness to faithful Abraham, He had promised that through Abraham's descendants all nations would be blessed.
God singled out Israel to become a nation of priests in the true revelation of the Most High toward all nations.
"in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."
(Genesis 22:18).
At that time,
most nations believed in a Most High above all their other gods, but rather pursued their lesser gods whom they thought they could manipulate in various ways.
in the centuries after the sealing of God's covenant with Israel at Mount Sinai, in reaction to this paganism of surrounding peoples, the religious leaders in Israel of later centuries emphasised Israel's separation rather than its founding purpose of the revelation of the Most High, even though, in the founding of Israel as a nation at Mount Sinai,
God had Himself made this unique objective/goal clear.
Objective = to be God's tool to reach the whole world with His mercy, of which, recording Holy Scripture was only the beginning...
At Mount Sinai, God had said to Israel –
"IF you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant,
you shall be My treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine;
and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.

Exodus 19:5-6.
Meaning that through the descendants of Isaac, miraculous son of Abraham* from infertile Sarah,
their nation would now become priests of God to reveal His true character to the whole earth!
That objective failed because human pride separated them as being the elite Chosen People rather than as tuned in to God's character of compassion toward all.
But, in the Matthew 24 heading-quote above, the Lord Jesus is now answering the following question from His disciples –
The Bible context: "As He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying,
'Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the End of the age?'
Matthew 24:3.
He had been warning them earlier of troubles ahead before the Kingdom of God comes. So, He here therefore states that –
the key timing-factor is not a date. It is –
their fulfilment/completion of His commission given to them to complete His ministry to the whole world!
for which purpose they had originally been recruited by Him to become part of His public ministry to Israel.
it is now necessary to re-examine this important statement of the Lord Jesus to His disciples because
Christianity has forgotten this primary timing-factor and has begun watching the world to estimate when the End will come
or His words are debased to being merely a geographic reference to the spread of Christianity.
Even Christ's term "this gospel" has been debased to simply spreading information about Jesus and/or explaining a spiritual formula of how to be saved from Hell.
This was not the message that Jesus proclaimed.
It was not what His disciples would have understood, at that time, by His phrase "this gospel"!
Christ's gospel was the revelation and demonstration of the true character of God, which had been so misrepresented by the religious leaders of His time.
Christ's gospel was more than words. He demonstrated the character of God in His personal behaviour!
He did not heal the sick because it attracted crowds. He healed because He cared!

In 3-hours of darkness of
"My God My God, why have You forsaken Me" until He said
"it is completed".
(Luke 23:44).
encompassing character of the gospel ministry of Jesus was God's encompassing care for all humanity, a quality of love which eventually sent Jesus to the cross –
for the only sinless human ever – to carry all our blame before God's holy Throne of justice
in Whom therefore the intrinsic infinity of His eternal person, humbled to finiteness, paid an infinite/immeasurable price.
So, to
*Note the Principle
of Abraham's blessing
If you are faithful to God to the extent of your ability, God is faithful to you to the extent of His ability, therefore, no matter what has happened in the centuries between, Christ's return will reinstate Abraham's descendants through Jacob as the gospel nation of Israel.

fulfil this commission of proclaiming His gospel throughout the whole world, His disciples, who effectively became His spiritual Body through the gift to them on the Day of Pentecost of the Holy Spirit's direct relationship to Christ's own humanity,
need to 'walk-in-His-shoes' in their relation to this world.
It is not coincidence that the most effective spread of the Christian gospel has been the consequence of spiritual revival/renewal in a particular part of Christ's Church, for "this gospel" cannot be detached from the spiritual character of His ministry
as being the direct compassionate presence of God.
Prayer is not to persuade God as though He needed to be changed. Worship is also not needed by God. These Christian activities are meant to tune-in His people to His attitude to that which is around them,
to enable them to walk in-His-shoes in their particular situation.
Therefore world evangelism and personal spiritual renewal/revival cannot be detached.
Evangelism needs to begin with a direct awareness of God's heart toward all those around us.
Then we will becomes aware of His insight and guidance for each step forward toward the goal of
that which sets the time of Christ's return.
A call to prayer is a call to enter God's heart, to identify with Him in the direction of our lives,
so that, whether we live or die, it is toward completing the ministry which God began in Christ.
